PARIS -- "For Yves and myself, Champagne is our first and last women's perfume," said Pierre Berge as he prepared to unveil Yves Saint Laurent's long-awaited new scent to the press Monday.
First, because his Opium and Paris were developed when the YSL fragrance and cosmetics business was operated under license to Charles of the Ritz. Last, because the house was just sold to Elf-Sanofi SA.
Although Saint Laurent and Berge retain control of the fashion business -- Berge continues as president of YSL Couture -- they've turned over the reins for Parfums YSL.
