Nov. 2--MUMBAI, India -- The festival of lights is finally here, but the sparkle is missing for dry fruits, sweetmeats and firecracker dealers, belying their initial expectations. A visit to the dry fruit market in APMC, Vashi is enough to gauge the downcast mood of traders.
Though the shops there are loaded with almond, pistachio, raisins, walnuts and cashew, there are hardly any takers.
Normally, demand for dry fruits picks up from Navratri and Dassera and is sustained during Diwali, followed by Ramzan and Christmas. "We put all our money and energy for the three-month long period, but are yet to recover our cost price," ...
