F you love alpine plants but don't have an obvious setting in which to put them, you can grow them in a specially-made raised alpine bed - and it doesn't have to cost the earth.

Raised alpine beds are not intended as natural features and few rocks are actually needed. But you should consider natural local stone, although bricks also work well in most gardens. Dry stone walls are also suitable as you can snuggle alpines in cracks and crevices which will provide them with the cool root run they love.
