MARBLE -- Even marble is not forever.
With Veterans Day on Friday, the Army remains stalled in its plan to replace The Tomb of the Unknowns.
Carved from Colorado marble, the tomb developed cracks within a decade after it was erected in 1931.
The emotionally charged, politically contentious plan to duplicate the original monument has been in limbo for 15 years, with Colorado and Vermont each nominating a block of marble for the hallowed ground.
