NEW YORK -- Patagonia was honored for "corporate achievement" when the Cooper-Hewitt, the national design museum of the Smithsonian Institution, gave out its sixth annual National Design Awards at a ceremony in its Manhattan headquarters on Oct. 20.
In an award presented by newscaster Tom Brokaw to his friend, company founder Yvon Chouinard, Patagonia was cited for its "high-quality outdoor sportswear ... with a focus on functionality." The Ventura, Calif.-based company was also lauded for its development of fabrics, such as Capilene and H2No Storm, as well as environmental initiatives "including producing clothes out of soda ...
