NEW YORK -- Herbal supplements, once mostly found in the realm of health food retailers, are moving into drug chains in large numbers, and sales are booming.
Indeed, sales of herbal supplements (they are considered a subcategory of vitamins and tonics) grew by a resounding 82% in drug stores to $41 million during the 12 months ended February 1993, according to Towne-Oller & Associates, the New York-based subsidiary of Information Resources Inc.
Herbal supplements are the third fastest-growing segment in drug chains, behind only women's replaceable razors and blades and baking soda dentifrices.
