LONDON -- An internal battle between two executives involved in USA Networks' plans to start a European channel has stalled the effort.

The issue in debate, the channel's expansion versus the syndication sales of its co-owners, is likely to become increasingly nettlesome for satellite networks in general as they spread their wings abroad.

USA planned to launch a satellite-delivered European service called Hollywood USA between late September and early November. An announcement of the launch was planned for the recent MIP-TV program market in France, according to sources. But now, exactly when the service will launch in Europe is uncertain.
