Nov. 8--TOKYO -- Japan's bottlers of mineral water have almost no exports given the overwhelming strength of overseas brands but they do have high confidence in the quality of their products and are trying to find markets abroad.

"Foreign-produced mineral water, such as Evian and Volvic of France, is too strong. There is no market for us in Europe and North America," an employee of a leading water bottler said.

According to the Japan Mineral Water Association, domestic shipments of mineral water in 2004 amounted to 1.63 million kiloliters, three times larger than 10 years before.
