All photographers experiment with techniques to help define their style. In film's hay day, certain emulsions could provide the "look" in one's style, whether it was Kodak Tri-X or Kodachrome, or other films.
But with today's digital film there is no grain, only ones and zeros that map the pixels of an image, forcing photographers to master new techniques to help define or maintain their style.
