Ever notice all those black spots on the sidewalk, especially in front of public buildings? Those are gum wads, discarded after all the sweetness and flavor have been chewed out of them.
Some gum chewers, like some cigarette smokers, seem to think it's OK to throw their waste on the ground.
Singapore actually banned chewing gum in 1992 because of a problem with discarded gum wads. Story has it that chewing gum stuck on the doors of a train car actually kept the train from running. This led to a ban on the import, sale and even possession of gum. That ban is now being lifted somewhat, but ...
