Norwegian whaling vessels, which this year were given the biggest quota in over a decade, have failed to reach their kill targets, revealed the Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs, Helga Pedersen, on November 1, a day after the 2005 whaling season closed. The 30 active vessels only harpooned 639 of the set quota of 796 minke whales, said Halvard Johansen, a senior ministerial official, adding that "this does not mean that quotas will reduced next year".
