Steve Schwandt suspected that the girl who showed up in his English class at Irondale High School might be the one.
He had heard about her.
The girl was such a good writer that her past teachers talked about her.
After she set a 20-year record on a standardized test in the first week of his class, Schwandt knew Kate Benson was that girl.
"We hit it off. She did great in every class I had her in," the retired teacher and author said. Benson graduated from Mounds View schools in 1999 and recently did what Schwandt always knew she could: She published her debut novel.
And "Two Harbors" is not what you might expect ...
