Dhaka, Nov 12 (UNB) - The first SAARC Award was today (Saturday) conferred posthumously on late President Ziaur Rahman as a Dreamer of SAARC who had first mooted the idea of regional cooperation in South Asia.
Outgoing SAARC Chairperson Pakistan Prime Minister formally announced the Award at the inaugural session of the 13th summit held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
He said late President Ziaur Rahman wrote letters to all SAARC leaders in early 1980s presenting his vision about the need for a regional cooperation aimed at progress and prosperity of the region. His vision came to reality through ...
