Article: EU tariff cuts in Doha Round would reinforce CAP reforms.(agricultural sector)

The European Commission's move towards making effective cuts in the European Union's agricultural tariffs should be seen not as an assault on, but as the completion of, the reform process begun in 2003.

Seen from a Doha Round perspective, the Union's decision effectively to compound all of its agricultural domestic support system--indirectly incorporating market support as well as direct subsidies--into one Single Farm Payment only has a purpose if it also improves the ability of the EU to trade more freely in the major temperate agricultural products.
