THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION estimated that, in 1985, approximately 3 million cases and 220,000 deaths from severe pesticide poisoning occurred worldwide. Additionally, in a study published in 1990 in the World Health Statistics Quarterly, it was estimated that approximately 25 million pesticide poisonings occur annually in developing countries among agricultural workers.
