Following an impressively thorough critical edition of Rimbaud's Poesies (Paris: Champion, 1999), Steve Murphy presents a similar 'edition pluriversionnelle' of Romances sans paroles. Unlike many editors, who follow the Vanier edition of 1887, Murphy takes as his main text the original manuscript sent by Verlaine to Edmond Lepelletier in 1873, which represents 'un stade determinant dans la genese du recueil' (p. 92).
