Eight in 10 Americans say they support pro-environmental policies, but a national survey by the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions at Duke University, Durham, N.C., finds their support often stops short of the ballot box.
"These results are a wake-up call, but they also represent an important opportunity," contends Tim Profeta, director of the Nicholas Institute. "They help us understand what we need to do to build public consensus and break down barriers to environmental progress."
The survey of registered voters found that 79% favored "stronger national standards to protect our land, air, and water," with 40% strongly supporting it. ...
