San Francisco, Calif. -- A pack of Giants fans had gathered near the visitors' tunnel at Monster Park last week when Eli Manning, New York's quarterback of the future who is coming of age in the present, began slowly walking off the field. The faithful roared its approval and clamored for some sort of souvenir by which to savor Manning's first road victory, a 24-6 decision over the host San Francisco 49ers.
Manning reached down for the small towel he had used to dry his hands on this damp day. He balled it up, cocked his multi-million dollar right arm and fired.
