Blues Traveler wasn't the first jam band. That title belongs to the Grateful Dead.
Nor is Blues Traveler the most popular contemporary group in the genre. Phish or the Dave Matthews Band could claim that crown. But Blues Traveler nonetheless had a significant place in jam history.
The band took off in the '90s, scoring the major hits "Run-Around" and "Hook" off its multiplatinum fourth album, "Four."
The group started the H.O.R.D.E. Tour, which for a decade brought up-and-comers - Phish and Matthews among them - together with established acts such as Neil Young and the Allman Brothers.
