CONTROVERSIAL plans to merge Britain's best performing ambulance service with neighbouring 999 teams will cost lives, it was claimed today.
Secret figures released to the Birmingham Mail laid bare the disparity between the performance of Staffordshire Ambulance Service and national averages.
The statistics emerged as Staffordshire officials warned "clinical excellence" would be risked if their service was merged with neighbouring counties in the face of huge opposition.
