An unresolved legal battle between the Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS) and an independent trade group known as the Federal Air Marshal Association, Inc. (FAMA) highlights the uncertainties faced by federal employees who complain about aviation safety and wrongdoing by their employers. Back in June, FAMS was sued by the association in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia for attempting to curtail the free-speech rights of the association's members, who, by and large, are currently employed federal air marshals and federal flight deck officers.
