INFRASTRUCTURE manager Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) has begun a project that will record wheel noises from all locomotives and wagons, analyse them and remove the noisy ones for repair.
The main objective of the Rail Squeal Acoustic Detection system (RailSQAD) is to reduce the wheel squeal noise emissions through the Adelaide Hills region. It was developed for ARTC with the expertise of Adelaide-based specialist acoustic engineers Vipac Engineers and Scientists.
