The first thing you'll notice as you come through the door of Mimosa Books and Gifts is the smell of incense. The aroma is joined by the sounds of Eastern music with tiny cymbals and a sitar melody. Gleaming brass ornaments catch your eye as colorful Tibetan prayer flags sway overhead.
Images like these were made popular during the rise of spiritual awareness in the 1960s and '70s. But co-owners Beth Wortzel and Diane Doughman say their business just off State Street goes beyond the usual cliches of the New Age movement.
