Criminal charges filed Nov. 2 against a former chief financial officer at a Michigan Catholic health system shed light on potential financial mischief by hospital CFOs when they are given financial incentives to boost earnings.
But a spokesman for a trade group said internal safeguards and compliance programs make incidents of overstating earnings in healthcare rare.
