Sales of the top 25 convenience wholesalers combined totaled $41.9 billion in the last fiscal year, according to the 2005 survey by Convenience Store News. That total is up 5.3% from the previous year. Average sales per company were $1.7 billion, up 5.3% from the prior year. Sales of the top 10 (see chart) were $36.6 billion, up 4.4%.
Temple, TX-based MCLANE GROCERY DISTRIBUTION held on to the number one spot, posting a 3.2% increase in sales. The company serves 37,550 retail locations throughout the 50 states and makes over 53,000 deliveries per week. McLane's 21 warehouses combined represent 7.2 million-sq. ft. of space.
