Cox's First Corollary of TV Relativity states that no movie or miniseries based on a literary work should take longer to watch than it takes to actually read the text.

So gush all you want about Colin Firth's smoldering Darcy in the BBC version of "Pride and Prejudice," but at six hours it's better - and less time consuming - to read Jane Austen's original novel, or at least see the brisk new movie version starring Keira Knightley.

Now comes Cox's Second Corollary: No made-for-TV movie or miniseries based on a feature film should take longer to watch than the original.
