EVER since its first appearance in 1973, the Volkswagen Passat has established a reputation for quality in the medium car market. Ten years ago, the Passat set a new benchmark for interior quality in executive cars.
Now the sixth generation is aiming again to set new standards for quality and equipment.
Larger than the old model in almost every way, the new Passat is one of the roomiest in its class.
It is instantly recognisable as a Passat, but in design it rivals the appearance of more expensive cars. At first glance, I thought I could detect a hint of Mercedes-Benz in it.
