ALMOST [pounds sterling]50million has been paid to people who have tripped up on London pavements in the past five years.
A total of 30,245 people have demanded cash for bumps, bruises and broken limbs since 2000, figures obtained by the Evening Standard under the Freedom of Information Act show. Malcolm Tarling of the Association of British Insurers said Britain's "compensation culture" had resulted in a growing number of people seeking cash after being injured.
"Not only have we seen an increase in the number of claims being made but we have also seen a 30 per cent increase in the amount of cash being awarded," he said.
