NEW YORK - With one hard surge, Cushing Academy's Ayalew Taye took the clear lead in the seeded boys race at yesterday's FootLocker Northeast Regional cross country championships.
The Portland, Maine, transplant suddenly felt very vulnerable with a deep field just yards behind.
"After the mile, I got a little scared," Ayalew said. "For a while I was lonely, because no one was with me. But I was ready if someone came up on me."
Taye pulled clear from his sophomore brother, Sintayehu, and was never challenged again, making up for last year's heart-breaking, 10th-place finish with a victory in 15 minutes, 20.9 seconds. ...
