The move to turn wireless phones into mobile credit devices got a boost last month in Asia, but don't expect the same to happen in the United States any time soon.
Japanese carriers and credit card underwriters in Asia formed a mobile wallet alliance last month. JCB Co., the largest credit card underwriter in Japan, and wireless providers KDDI and Vodafone banded together to push QUICPay, a system that uses a Sony smart chip in wireless phones to send and receive payments for anything sold electronically.
NTT DoCoMo launched a wallet phone service in Japan earlier this year. The company has said it has sold more than 5 million wallet phones in Japan.
