USS Essex (LHD 2) Sales and Services Division wrote a $73,000 check that will go directly to the ship's Morale Welfare and Recreation funds.
The contributed amount, allocated tri-annually, represented the profit on shipboard sales. The retail operation had sales in excess of $600,000 last accounting period.
"It's the largest check since I've been here," said Essex Commanding Officer CAPT Martin J. Keaney. "All the Sales personnel really hustled during the deployment selling a lot of great, high quality product. The fact that the ship sells such superior merchandise means consistently high turnover profits into the ship's MWR program."
