EATING oily fish during pregnancy can reduce the risk of asthma in children born to mothers with a history of the condition.

Researchers from the University of Southern California found that eating fish at least once a month more than halved the risk of a child developing asthma by the age of five.

They believe that the fatty acid content of oily fish may have an impact on the developing immune system.
