France's leading yogurt, food and drinks producer Groupe Danone, which continues to be the subject of foreign takeover rumors despite the strong opposition expressed by the French government earlier this year to the suggestions that PepsiCo planned to buy the firm (NI vol 10 no 8), has said it is strengthening its positions in both North Africa and the Middle East through the acquisition of a fresh dairy-product business in Egypt and the signature of a partnership agreement in Tunisia for the development of its biscuit business in Algeria.
