Los Angeles tourism officials are pointing to the slight upswing in the national economy as evidence to support their hopes of a strengthening local hotel market this summer. But they conceded, in reality, the summer outlook for the L.A. hotel market remains shrouded in mystery.

Looking past summer, no single project holds more promise for downtown Los Angeles hoteliers than the $500 million expansion of the Convention Center, which is scheduled to be completed in late 1993.
