SEOUL, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - South Korea's public health insurance premiums are likely to rise sharply in 2006 as the government is considering an increase of more than 5 per cent, officials said Thursday.

The government recently submitted a proposal to the Health Insurance Policy Review Committee to raise health insurance premiums by 6.84-4.5 per cent next year, according to officials at the Welfare Ministry.

The committee is slated to hold a meeting on Friday to make a final decision on the proposed increase in health insurance premiums, they said.
