Wheeling is taking a proactive approach with federal and state funding agencies.
The village board has approved spending $50,000 next year to enlist the help of a lobbying firm.
The firm of Broydrick and Alexander with offices in Springfield and Washington, D.C., will receive a $3,500-a-month retainer for a one-year period of Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2006.
The village has the right to terminate the contract at any time as long it gives 30 days' notice in writing.
