UN envoy raps China for "widespread" torture Anil K Joseph Beijing, Dec 2 (PTI) The UN today rapped China for its "widespread" use of torture and called for major structural reforms in its legal system to ensure fair trial.
"My preliminary conclusion is that as far as the amount of torture, I would recognize a certain decline... But nevertheless torture remains widespread in the country," the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Manfred Nowak, said while wrapping up a historic 12-day tour of the communist nation.
