LATEST figures show the number of asthma sufferers has almost doubled in recent years.
In Merseyside around 10% of the population has it.
Top consultant chest physician Dr Martin Walshaw says numbers have rocketed over the last 30-40 years to make asthma more prevalent than it ever has been.
But while more asthma is being diagnosed, the number of hospital admissions in adults has remained stable and among children has actually fallen.
And fewer people are dying from the condition than they were 10 years ago.
