IT IS a dish that conjures up images of medieval banquets and hunting parties.

With an apple in its mouth and its head on a large platter, the wild boar once formed the centrepiece of the traditional Scottish banquet.

Now it could be about to make a comeback on the Christmas dinner table.

As some families choose to boycott the traditional turkey amid concerns about avian flu, TV chef Nick Nairn has noticed an increased demand for wild boar as an alternative dish.
