MIAMI _ When air marshals fired on a passenger Wednesday afternoon in Miami, they were doing so under use of force policies similar to those used by local police agencies.
"It would be the same for any law enforcement officer," said Jim Bauer, special agent in charge of the Miami Field Office for the Federal Air Marshal Service. "That is, when there is a threat, a life threat."
Bauer, speaking Wednesday at a news conference at Miami International Airport, declined to discuss further details of air marshal policies. Federal and local law enforcement officials are investigating the incident.
