TOKYO, Dec 8 Asia Pulse - Calpis Co (TSE:2591) has established a method for the efficient production of a lactic acid bacteria believed to have allergy-suppressing effects.
Using the new process, the firm says it can double the hourly production volume for the Lactobacillus acidophilus strain L-92 in comparison to current methods.
Calpis developed a neutral culturing method to improve productivity.
Lactic acid bacteria produce lactic acid during fermentation. As the surrounding medium becomes acidic, the bacteria stop multiplying.
