Dec. 9--The City Council's new budget eliminated 35 filled and unfilled jobs -- a leaner work force for leaner times, council members declared in cutting roughly $1.1 million in payroll.

Hardest hit was Point Mallard Park, which lost seven employees and had four others transferred. High profile cuts included Planning Director Jim Fisher and Safety Coordinator Mike Voss. Also cut were three vacant police and seven vacant firefighter jobs, three Parks and Recreation workers, and two Beautification workers.
