IN THE EARLY DAYS OF HD, GETTING A HIGH-QUALITY HD SIGNAL TO BROADCAST AND CABLE AFFILIATES COULD BE AN ADVENTURE. THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH AUDIO-VIDEO SYNCHRONIZATION, OR "LIP SYNCH," AND OCCASIONAL HICCUPS FROM EARLY HD ENCODERS. BUT HD COMPRESSION AND MODULATION TECHNOLOGY HAS IMPROVED DRAMATICALLY SINCE THEN, AND TRANSMITTING HD FEEDS OVER BOTH SATELLITE AND FIBER HAS BECOME STANDARD PRACTICE TODAY FOR THE MAJOR HD PROGRAMMERS.
