FOUR YEARS AGO my husband and I did something I never would have envisioned myself doing: we bought a house in Palm Beach. If it had been the Hamptons, it might not have seemed so radical--after all, I've spent most of my summers there for the past thirty years. But Palm Beach was somewhat foreign territory.
Until 1998, which is when I met the man who would become my husband, I'd never been there, unless you count lecturing at the Ritz-Carlton, down the road in Manalapan, and taking a taxi so I could cruise Worth Avenue just to see for myself why this famed shopping street was so special.
