Ask today's youngsters what they want to be when they grow up and you're bound to get the standard answers: Firefighter. Ballerina. Astronaut. Newspaper critic.
But don't be shocked if more than a few of them respond by straightening an imaginary tie, nodding to a band off in the distance and confessing that they plan to be a talk-show host.
Ever since Steve Allen got access into homes, kids have been cracking jokes in the bathroom mirror, dreaming of having their own show. The difference these days is that by the time they grow up, there may be room for every single one of them.
