DETROIT -- Adrian Beltre never thought it would take 2 1/2 seasons for Seattle to be in the race for the postseason when he signed with the Mariners before the 2005 season.
Some might say the Mariners are out of contention after losing 11 of 12 before getting Thursday off. Beltre, who has been through rocky times as Seattle's third baseman, says his team has more resilience than anyone realizes.
The Mariners had already signed first baseman Richie Sexson in December 2004, and with a holdover crew that included second baseman Bret Boone, Ichiro Suzuki and Raul Ibanez, Seattle thought it had retooled after a 99-loss season.
