The most telling moment in Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's remarkable solo "Once" occurred halfway through Thursday night's performance at the Walker Art Center, when people in the audience began to sing along softly.
Had those folks become so entranced by the velvety, quavery voice of Joan Baez, coming from a tape of the "Joan Baez in Concert Part 2" LP on which De Keersmaeker's solo is based, that they readily joined in when Baez asked her listeners to sing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" with her?
Or were they so emotionally absorbed in De Keersmaeker's profoundly personal ...
