Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) is often interchanged with Sleep Apnea when actually SDB encompasses any form of disordered breathing during sleep. Not to be overlooked is Central Sleep Apnea Syndrome; characterized by a cessation or decrease of ventilatory effort during sleep and usually associated with oxygen desaturation. Central Sleep Apnea is a respiratory disturbance that often is predisposed by cerebrovascular or cardiac disease.
