Dec. 20--The public uproar to start Rex Grossman began long before fans showered boos on Sunday night's early offensive inefficiency, which is why Lovie Smith reacted to being asked about it on Monday with sarcasm and a smile.
"No, really?" the Bears' coach said.
Smith has been around long enough to know the backup quarterback often is the most popular player in town, especially when that backup wore a starter's tag before being injured.
