Stewart International Airport is to change its name to New York Hudson Valley International Airport.

The airport has said that the name change could help it attract larger airlines and help it get more service from current ones. The name change will step into force in May 2006 and although the new name will not change the airport code, it is will identify the airport as being located close to New York, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

Airport officials and local representatives are reportedly trying to make the airport attractive to low-cost carriers like JetBlue and Southwest.
